The Gardjola is a prominent guard tower on Maltese forts in Malta and an example of a vedette or sentry, which is decorated with carvings of eyes and ears, symbolizing watchfulness, and commands a view to the west over the length of the Grand Harbour and southern flanks of Valletta (from Lonely Planet).
