What?

I felt like making my own. It fits my wood chisels. They aren't the best, and at least one is dull, but sitting on a shelf in my workshop is a waste of space and just not a good idea. During my extensive, 3-minute search, I didn't see any holders that I really loved--they all seem to hold the chisels in there a little wobbly, so I made this one. Because it has some magnets in the lower area, it holds them nice and secure from all the shaking that my concrete walls don't do.

Included are STEP and STL files for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and yes, even 6 chisels! Depending on how heavy your chisels are, you may want to model another hole in the center for further attachment to your wall or french cleat or saddle or whatever you are mounting on. I used #6 x 2" drywall screws to do the attachment business. If you need one with more than 6 and feel like this model is the bee's knees, let me know and I can add a custom one.

I feel like I probably don't use enough magnets. So why not…

So normally I would order some metric magnets but happened to be at the local hardware store and they only carry imperial sizes, because of where I live. I used Magcraft Neodymium disc magnets with a diameter of .5" (12.7mm) and thickness of .125" (3.2mm) so that's what the holes are modeled to fit. Pressed in from the back, no glue required, they only have to ‘attract’ through a 1mm shell. Seems to work well if you get good magnets. Again, if you feel like you need something custom, let me know and I can upload something else here, I have a parametric model…

Additional Hardware

  • Magcraft Neodymium NSN0802/N40 disc magnets 0.5"D x 0.125"T
  • #6 x 2" drywall screws
  • One or more chisels

Print Settings

On my Ender 3v2 with Overture white PLA Pro

  • LH .20 - .44 was tested fine. I like my layer lines, don't judge me.
  • Nozzle .6
  • No supports; brim recommended- I used 5mm, .1 spacing and no curling but you do you.
  • Orientation: I was able to just squeeze the 5-rack on the bed of my printer with a 5mm brim and no skirt with the ‘back’ side on the bed. I also tested it with the ‘top’ side on the bed and that worked just as good, really.

Post-Processing

Shouldn't need much. I ran a ½" drill bit (by hand) into the magnet recesses just to clean them up a bit. You may need to sand the spots where the chisels mount to a bit depending on your printer but I had no problems with mine.
