Printing

Print the model in PETG or ASA.  For the gels, use a PETG that is transparent or translucent when printed 3 layers thick.  Neutral/Natural ASA should also work well.

None of the parts should need supports.

If you have adhesion issues, try adding a brim.  Personally I haven't found this to be necessary.

When printing the base, I used a modifier mesh to increase the infill towards the bottom of the base (the top when printing).  This will add extra weight and help keep the model bottom-heavy.

Assembly

  1. Put magnets into each of the 8 holes in each upper and lower shade, 6 magnets in the cap shade, and 17 holes in each rib.  Personally, I chose to put opposite polarity into the upper panels and lower panels so that they can't be incorrectly installed.  The magnets that go into the ribs will not go in all the way.
  2. Thread the bulb socket into the threaded part of the base with the wire running through the interior cavity.
  3. Zip-tie around the cable through the holes at the base so that the cable can't be tugged out of the lamp.
  4. [Optional] Mix epoxy and weights (metal nuts, random nails, etc) and pour into the moat cavity at the bottom.
  5. Install the ribs into the holes on the top of the base.
  6. Hold gels up to the magnets.  They'll sort of be held in place by the magnets.
  7. Place the shades over top of the gels.  The magnets should hold both the gels and the shades into place.

All the gels and panels have a small hole at the center bottom of the border.  If you're unsure if you're looking at an upper or lower panel, orient the panel so that the small hole is at the bottom and then it'll be correctly oriented to the lamp.

Additional Notes

I've included DXF files for the shades in case you want to make your own.  Just import them as a sketch in your CAD of choice, or use them to laser cut shades!
