Your stocking should hang parallel to the mantle, assuming your stocking loop is looping in that direction.
If you are worried the print will snap at the hook, print where the front of the hook is on the plate. Otherwise, print it on its side. It should not need any supports.
I always print with adaptive layer height so I can get the curve smooth.
To attach it to the mantle, use some 3m command hooks or any double sided tape that won't leave residue. The print has a small crevice to hide some of the tape (though not all since you still want to press it firmly down.)
