The flat pieces are the bottoms so you can just lift boxes, plug in the halves, and go. Also works with the flat pieces as the tops though. Cases are held together with 5mm diameter 2mm thick magnets, which are strong enough to hold them together in a backpack, but weak enough that you can separate them on your desk by lightly shaking the pieces with one hand. Will fit with folded palm rests and slight inclines too
