I made this to be able to interact with microsoft flight simulator without the need to use my mouse.
Be warned: the buttons are kinda clunky but it works!
Components list:
2x Cut rotary encoder with push
1x Cut rotary encoder
12x 6x6x4.5mm Tactile button
8x M3 screws
8x M3 heat set inserts
1x Arduino Mega or similar (20 digital pins needed)
Printing and Assembly
Step One: Print the "Face" part and a button in either FDM or SLA, then check if the button interfaces well with the face, if it does not, increase or decrease the size of the button by 1% in the X and Y directions.
Step Two: Print the "Main" part, and fix the tactile buttons to the part by bending the pins of the buttons outwards.
Step Three: Attach the two push encoders to the "Main" part with a nut. (if there is a little block on the encoder preventing the encoder from sitting flush sand it off.)
Step Four: Attach the vertical speed knob encoder as well, but make sure to put the "VS knob" part on during installation.
Step Five: Daisy-chain the ground on the tactile buttons and the encoders and connect it to ground on the Arduino. Connect the other pins to the Arduino's digital pins.
Step Six: Print and add the heat set inserts to the "Side" part.
Step Seven: Print all of the buttons and add them to "Face" part. Screw the face part onto the "Side" part, and make sure that the "Main" part is in between the "Face" and the "Side".
Step Eight: Add the "Knob" parts to the encoders and the "Back" part if needed.
Software Setup
I used Mobiflight Connector to communicate between the Arduino and the Simulator, but you may use another program so i will not go into detail about Mobiflight.
Print Settings
I used black PLA for the whole build, but i would recommend to resin print the buttons and the face part.
If you use single color PLA like i did you may want to paint the text white or if you printed with white PLA might want to paint the entire part and sand off the paint on the text.
15% infill should be good, the text won't turn out great with a 0.4mm nozzle.
