This is a jig that holds a chisel at the correct angle while sharpening with a whetstone. It uses common 608 bearings as rollers.

Features:

  • printed angle adjustment wedges 25 - 30°

  • rollers left, right and center enable you to use the whole width of the stone

  • cutouts for common chisel sizes in the lid, but you can also use other sizes

Hardware:

  • 3 x 608 bearing, sealed ones preferred

  • 6 x M8 washer small (DIN 125, ISO 7089)

  • 1 x M8 screw, hex or socket head, 65 mm or longer (or use threaded rod and an additional nut)

  • 1 x M8 nut

  • 2 x M5 screw hex head, 40 mm or longer

  • 2 x M5 nut

Print info:

  • 4 walls, 40 % infill, but use whatever you see fit

  • no supports, orient as seen in the slicer screenshot

  • Very tight tolerances. The wedges must not wiggle for the angle to be correct. If they don't fit, file the dovetail joint with sandpaper until they just fit

  • Print slowly, you want accuracy

  • I printed with PCTG, but you can use anything you want, as long as your shrinkage compensation is well adjusted

How to use:

  • Insert the angle wedge you chose.

  • Insert the chisel, don't tighten the screws fully.

  • Adjust the chisel position until it sits flush with the wedge.

  • Remove the wedge

  • Sharpen

  • Ruin your chisel by using it to open a paint can so that you can sharpen it again, because it is so much fun :D
