I got rid of my Ikea GRUPPSPEL's arm rests as they were getting in my way. Got left with either two holes or two protruding bolts on each side.
Instead of hole caps, I designed a cover to hold two of these round smart zigbee buttons you find on aliexpress or amazon. Search for "Zigbee Smart Button Scene". Look for the round, smooth ones (haven't tried the SONOFF ones) with a 50mm diameter.
I find it easier to pair the buttons before installing them in the covers, but they can still be removed later on (the top parts are twist lock).
Just install the batteries, pair the buttons with your zigbee network, pill the sticky tapes off and put them in place.
I kept the original bolts to hold the cover, though the spacing might be slightly off, so don't rush it.
The buttons remain below the seat level so they don't get in the way.
