Info:

  • DSLR camera model (based on Canon EOS 5D Mark II)
  • features:
    • attachable lens via thread
    • clickable shutter button, which makes sound (based on great fidget from @kriswillcode)
    • swivel mode dial wheel (with some tension)
    • see through hole (simulates viewfinder very well, you can see above lens nicely)
    • hangers for classic camera straps
  • great toy, my son loves it

Dimensions info:

  • default 100% scale = about 80% of real camera size
    • if you want real size, scale the model to 125%
    • I decided to the smaller model because of working tolerances, which will still work on upscaled models (probably with using glue on parts, where there is not that much friction anymore)
      • also smaller model is great for my 3yo kid, and his smaller hands

Parts + print info:

Main big objects
  • camera body:
    • support is recommended for lens hole (see 3mf)
    • 0.2mm layers in general, variable layer height with thinner layers (sample in 3mf) for upper body parts is useful
    • some parts reinforced in 3mf
  • lens(es):
    • no supports, inner brim
    • 0.2mm layers in general, slight modification for thread (see 3mf) via variable layer height)
  • camera body threaded insert
    • no supports, no brim
    • you will need this to be inserted into camera body (via hole in the bottom)
      • note: thread is not symmetric, the bigger hole should be aiming the outside - close to the lens
    • reason: so the thread is printed horizontally
    • 0.2mm layers
Accessory parts
  • dial swivel wheel
    • consists of 2 parts
      • wheel (used variable layer height for nicer wheel results)
      • round rod (tiny part, designed to make some tension inside. If it is too tight, downscale this part)
    • 0.2mm layers
    • no support
  • clickable shutter (producing click sound)
    • inner mechanism - multiple parts
      • I have published this as separate model, as it is standalone device which can be reused in other models
      • so please download & print the “button-ALL_0.2mm_PLA
        _MK3S_44m.gcode” or 3mf from here
    • camera surface cap
      • print in the same color as camera body
      • it matches the surface curvature of the camera
      • variable layer height for thin layers on visible parts
      • tiny support needed
    • shutter button cap
      • attachable to inner switch mechanism
      • variable layer height for thin upper layers
      • if the connection is too loose, just glue it, if too tight, scale this part up (or ask me, i will upload the same capu with different hole)
      • note: orientate it based on the surface!
      • no support

Assembly:

In general:
  • if any connection
    • that should be tight is too loose for you, glue it, or place thin tape on it and try it with that
    • that should be loose, but it is too tight, scale this tiny part down and print again (like the shaft for swivel wheel or shutter button cap)
Swivel wheel:
  • put the round rod inside, the cube must be outside
  • probably use pliers, to be able to put it inside (by grabbing the 2 parts together), you may use some force
  • then just attach wheel on the cube
  • try rotating the wheel, it should be slightly tight, from the beginning it may be tigter, but after some time, it will be smoother
  • you should be able to remove the rod from inside with pliers, if needed
  • you can glue the wheel on the rod
Clickable shutter:
  • for the inner mechanism - see linked model
  • while you have it still outside - try to put there button cap and surface cover, remember the cap needs to copy the surface
  • insert whole mechanism inside (check orientation on the photo!)
  • put there surface cover aswell
  • and finally attach button cap, if it is too loose, glue it on the inner mechanism

That's it, happy photo shooting :)

  • Camera model:
    • original camera model downloaed from “Weicheng Jin” page on https://grabcad.com/, where he states, the model is from author “Rhino”
      • i have made transformation into STL,  fixing all the problems in the model and adjusted everything to be perfectly prinable without supports
