Update 19 July 2026
Following feedback I have created a smaller hole size for the Bin and Lid. The size should be 1.5mm maximum, depending on material shrinkage. A new project .3mf and related .step files have been uploaded.
These are custom desiccant bins for the QIDI Box. The design uses a hexagonal mesh to maximize airflow and desiccant surface area while keeping the structure rigid. Please note that the photo of the Bins in the Qidi Box contain some of the earlier designs. The hex design is third from the left.
The design is original but inspired by https://www.printables.com/model/1386559-high-capacity-desiccant-bin-for-qidi-box-updated
I recommend these printed in ABS or ASA with an 0.25mm layer height and a constant speed of 35mm/S given the tall slender shape of the bin (I look a reasonable surface finish, even if you don't see it all the time) I have also reduced the travel speed to 250mm/S as well as the acceleration settings. Given all the short moves, this won't have a huge impact on print time. Have a look at the process preset to see what I have done. Also, have a look at the filament presets, in particular the cooling tab as these are quite aggressive but given the chamber temperature of 55C they do work.
Bin I wanted a durable bin so I left quite a lot of plastic in. Given the fact that the bin is quite tall and thin I don't think this will be a problem as the air doesn't have far to flow to get from one side to the other.
Lid T he bin lid is intended to have a positive fit but not be so tight that all the desiccant goes flying when you open it.
Bracket You can reuse the screws on the original part. If your adding two additional bins use #4x 3/8" pan head screws - I used plastic thread forming screws. The bracket provides a gap between it and the bin to maximize air flow.
Scoop Each bin requires 4 scoops of desiccant.
Funnel Just a funnel, nothing flash
Drill Guide If you want to add two additional bins, the drill guide will get the holes in the right place. I used a small drill to get the location right, then drilled it out with a bigger drill to give some screw clearance. The screws are 42mm apart.

Found this useful? These bins were developed through quite a few test iterations in different materials. If you want to contribute to the next round of testing for the next project, it’s always appreciated: buymeacoffee.com/ChrisNZL.
