I had been happily using my MINI+ transformed to Satsuma 180 with Orbiter 2.5 and CHC mini hotend for almost a year. Well, if I think about it, not much was left from MINI as only original parts were buddy board, pinda sensor, xyz steppers, rods with bearings, and printbed :-). However, it was time to get rid of another original part - XY rods and linear bearings. Y-axis was more or less ok, but X-axis with two rods caused unpleasant squeaking noises in specific gantry positions. Only solution was change to linear rails.

What had to be changed? Original Satsuma design was mostly usable with slight redesigns:

  • Y-axis - front idlers mounts

  • Z-axis - steppers lowered 10 mm with spacers for X-gantry clearance,

  • Top corners - clearance for gantry

X-axis was another story as it had to be totally redesigned to accomodate rail mounts. It included changes in hotend mounting, etc. so I was thinking if it is worth the time. But why not use already finished and excellent solution? Voron, for example? I borrowed its design for hotend carriage (slight changes because of belts position), hotend parts and stealthburner assembly. Hence, only parts I had to make from scratch was mount assembly of whole X-axis to Y-rails.

Also, some tools had to be made for proper linear rails alignment.

As is for Satsuma itself, I am not sharing any STL file for understandable reasons, but I am giving you complete F3D Fusion file. Whole upgrade process is not for beginners and if you don't understand how to change any part of your printer, you should not do it.

All inner functional parts must be printed in ABS or ASA due to the thermal stability (see orange colors in design file). Other parts are ok with PETG.

And one big disclaimer. Whole design is working, but not polished, you have to adapt it for your specific needs. Use your imagination :-)!
