I wanted an omni wheel for Legos for a long time, and no one had made one and instead of just making an adapter for someone else's wheel or remix their wheel I made my own. With the separate parts it's easy to make a replacement without having to reprint the whole wheel. The process of making 4 wheels took about 12 hours printing and labor combined. If you forget which parts are which you can always just find which ones line up and putting the wheel together isn't that hard. Also check out my 3 inch Lego TPU wheel that goes with the omni wheel here.

Parts:

  • 3D printed parts:

For one wheel you will need all four omni wheel parts (part 1, 2, 3, and 4), 12 axles, and 12 TPU wheels.

  • Non-printed parts:

You will need 3 technic pins for one wheel.

Printing:

  • Wheel:

Print all the wheel parts with the axle holes on the outside rim facing down.

Enable supports to ensure the axle holes print well.

  • Axle:

Print facing straight up and down with brim.

  • TPU Wheel:

Print straight up and down.

Assembly (For 1 Wheel):

  1. Put all 12 axles inside the TPU wheels.

  2. Take part 1 and place 6 of the TPU wheels/axles in it in the corresponding half circles for the axles.

  3. Then take part 2 and place it on top of part 1 so each axle it encased in a full circle on each side making sure to line up the pin holes and the axle hole in the center. After everything is lined up place the three technic and place them in three of the holes in the center that are not adjacent to each other and so the other end of the pins are sticking out the top of part 2.

  4. Next take part 3 and line up the axle hole and pin holes in the center then push it onto the pins sticking out of part 2. The out juts on part 3 should cover the TPU wheels on part 1 and 2, and the half circles for the TPU wheels should be facing up.

  5. Finally place the last 6 TPU wheels/axles and put them in the corresponding slots on part 3. Then take part 4 and line the inner pin holes and axle hole up with the other three and place it on top of part 3 so each TPU axle is in its full circle and so the entire thing is a thick disk that won't fall apart on its own.
