After just under a year of work, I'm proud to release the Midwest Designs Tachyon, a 100% printable Mini ITX computer case.

The Tachyon is my second foray into computer cases, now with custom printed circuit boards for USB and Front IO. It aims to deliver a practical, durable, space-efficient case with enough room for high-end components. I have been running my system in prototypes of this case for months now.

Features:

  • 2x front USB 3.1 ports

  • 2x front USB 2.0 ports

  • Integrated power button and status LED

  • Removable bottom storage drive tray

  • 3 slot GPU support

  • Quick removable side panels

  • Up to 2x 140mm front case fans

  • Magnetic fan cover

  • 19.5L case volume

  • TPU cable grommets

  • Modular cable clips

Hardware Compatibility:

  • GPU: 3 slot total card width, 315mm length, and 150mm depth

  • CPU: Coolers up to 54mm thick

  • PSU: SFX and SFX-L

  • Internal storage bays: 2x 2.5" drives

In the .ZIP file, you will find just about every file I have on this case, including PCB gerbers and KiCAD files, STEPs, STLs, 3MFs, renders, and the bill of materials.

I don't currently have a build guide planned, but if enough people ask I can attempt to provide one. Components are assembled via using 1.75mm filament dowels to align the pieces and gluing them together with fast-curing transparent JB-weld. I highly reccomend NOT using superglue for this, from experience. PETG is the material I went with. The tabs for the side panels are labeled with "A" and "B" and correspond to the slots labeled "A" and "B" on the side panels. Minor sanding may be needed.

If I missed anything, or if you have any questions, please leave a comment and I will try to get back as soon as I can.
