This TNT Clock is shaped liked a stack of dynamites and uses common components to show accurate time.

It also randomly starts counting down to give a more realistic feeling of a bomb.

Wires are exposed to keep the aesthetics going that it's a bomb.

The attached files also include the schematics of the current implementation:

Main components:

  • An ESP32 module (wifi is not required)

  • A RTC module with backup battery DS3231

  • 4 character 16 segment LED display HT16K33

  • Three buttons to set time or enable DST

Assembly:

  • Solder the components based on what you have available.

  • The build is pretty straightforward: Both RTC and Segment display need to be on an I2C bus, and three GPIOs for the button. A regular arduino can be used, but I chose an ESP to be able to use micropython.

  • Improvise the visible wires -- the worse the better!

  • Insert M3/M2 Heat-set inserts.

Thanks to the RTC module the clock can be unplugged/replugged without losing the time.

The ESP runs a micropython firmware and is available for review on Github: https://github.com/prashnts/tnt-clock

The display and buttons are added onto the main body so they may be replaced with anything else you may choose.

PS: I'd not recommend carrying it with you at an airport! ;)
