Solar Filter Holder for Svbony MK127 (Baader AstroSolar 5.0)
A two-piece solar filter holder for the Svbony MK127 telescope. The frame clamps the filter film sandwich evenly and features an internal stop ridge to protect the meniscus lens from contact.
The picture shows it with protective sheets mounted. Solar eclipse has still to happen. :)
⚠ WARNING:
Looking at the Sun through an unprotected telescope doesn't mean you might suffer eye damage – you WILL.
Always check the film for holes or tears before use.
Make sure the holder sits tight and can't fall off.
Bill of Materials (BOM)
Solar Film: Baader AstroSolar® ECO-size Safety Film 5.0 (140×155 mm) including the both included cardboard templates
Hardware: 8× M3 countersunk screws (e.g., M3×10), 8× M3 nuts, 8× M3 washers (DIN 125)
Tubus Fit & Protection: Self-adhesive velvet/velour sheet (e.g., d-c-fix)
Consumables: Sandpaper (120–240 grit), Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA), maybe superglue (CA glue) and double-sided adhesive tape
Assembly:
Sand the places for the velour/velvet sheet
Clean with IPA and apply the velour.
You can apply a tiny bead of superglue along the front leading edge of the velour strip to prevent it from rolling back when sliding the holder onto the telescope tube.
Cut out the 120mm opening from the cardboard templates
Remove the both protection sheets from the film
Place the parts into the front frame: template - AstroSolar film - template
Place the back part on top and tighten the 8× M3 countersunk screws hand-tight in a cross pattern.
Note: If the sandwich is still loose, add a layer of double-sided tape to fill the gap
