SYMFONISK Bookshelf Speaker Backplate / Stand Adapter

With the phase-out of the SYMFONISK collaboration between Sonos and IKEA, I managed to grab a great deal on two of the bookshelf speakers.

Unfortunately, IKEA seems to be sold out of the original wall brackets just about everywhere, and both the OEM bookshelf stands and wall brackets are now commanding a premium on resale sites.

Enter: the 3D-printed backplate.

Note: images shown are a slightly older version. I have since added convenience holes for access to the M3 bolts to thread the two pieces together, and some ~fillets~ for that good feeling. Didn't feel like reprinting, bit sort on PETG atm.

I designed this as an alternative mounting solution, specifically for attaching the speaker to a floor stand. To fit on my MK3.9s bed, I split it into two pieces that (very forcifully) dovetail together, and are then bolted for extra rigidity.

I've included the STEP file as well, so you can modify the design if your mounting setup or available hardware is different. (I think this would would great for normal wall mounting with some modification).

Be advised: it is a very tight fit, could definitely be adjusted... Then again, it works, and its very satisfying.

Hardware Required

The hardware required is a bit of a nightmare:
  • 2× M3×8-10mm socket-head bolts
Used for the two small mounting holes on the back of the speaker.

  • 2× M3×20 mm socket-head bolts
Used to fasten the two printed pieces together. Longer bolts should also work if needed.

  • 2× M3 nuts

  • 3× M5×10 mm bolts
Used at the top and bottom of the speaker to secure the plate. These match the OEM bracket mounting points.

For the speaker stand setup shown
  • 2× M6 nyloc nuts

  • 2× M6×12 mm bolts

Speaker Stand

The stand I used is available here: Amazon

Also got different power cords so they could be threaded through the stand: Amazon

I was initially a little worried about stability, but the setup has been perfectly stable so far (I put the stands at roughly ear level when sitting, ~1m). This print is probably overbuilt, but again, not a problem right?!

My print settings

  • 0.6 mm nozzle, 3 walls

  • 0.25 mm layer height

  • 20% infill

  • PETG
