Physical latches that hold Shift and the three modifier keys left of the space bar down, so you can type shortcuts with one hand. No software, works on every device you pair.

Who it helps

People who type with one hand (amputation, stroke, spinal cord injury, a hand in a cast) or with a mouth stick or head pointer. Ctrl + Shift + T, Shift + letters or Alt + Tab normally need two fingers at once. Sticky Keys in software is one answer, but it has to be set up on each computer, and the MX Mechanical switches between three devices. With this, the key is physically held down: flip the lever to ON, press the other key, flip it back. You can see at a glance which modifier is locked.

How it works

  • Each lever turns 180° on an axle made from a piece of 1.75 mm filament.

  • An eccentric cam pushes a plunger that presses the key 2.5 mm (the MX Mechanical actuates at 1.3 mm and bottoms out at 3.2 mm).

  • The cam goes 10° past its dead point, so the key's own spring keeps it locked in both positions: no springs, no magnets.

  • Lever toward the edge = ON, toward the keys = OFF (engraved on the top).

Mounting: reversible, no tools

A rigid lip hooks under the front edge and two flexible clips snap over the left edge. It rests on the flat frame border around the keys. Nothing is opened, drilled or glued, and it comes off in seconds.

How it was checked

Designed on Logitech's official MX Mechanical CAD model. Checked against it: the base does not touch the keyboard; the plungers clear the keycaps in OFF (the caps are dished and tilted, up to 9.2 mm at the edge); the levers do not rub anywhere in their full 180° turn; the cam travel was calculated every 30°. Overhang audit of every part: 0 mm². Sliced in Bambu Studio.

Print settings

A1 mini, 0.20 mm, PLA, no supports. Base (printed upside down, top face on the bed): 48 min, 24 g. Levers and plungers: 12 min, 3 g.

Assembly

  1. Drop the four plungers into their square holes from below (the big one goes under Shift).

  2. Put each lever in its slot with the round cam hanging down when the lever points to ON.

  3. Push a 75 mm piece of filament through the side hole for the three bottom levers, and a 17 mm piece into the back hole for Shift. Trim flush.

  4. Hook the front lip under the keyboard's front edge, then press the left side down until the clips click.

Parametric OpenSCAD source included: travel, clearance (AJUSTE) and key positions are at the top of the file, so it can be adapted to other keyboards.

About this design

Designed with AI assistance and checked in code before release (see above). Pictures are 3D renders on Logitech's CAD model, not photos. It is new: makes, fit reports and feedback from people who type with one hand are very welcome.
