[Fix / Discussion] Ender-3 V3 SE CR-Touch Homing Failure: Why the "Pre-Parked" Endstop Trick Works

Hey everyone, if you are struggling with a brand-new Ender-3 V3 SE where the CR-Touch pin randomly refuses to deploy at startup (causing failed homing or red blinking errors), I found a bizarre workaround that works 80% of the time, and figured out exactly why it happens from a technical standpoint.

The Workaround

Before flipping the power switch on, manually slide the heated bed (Y-axis) all the way back and push the toolhead (X-axis) all the way to the left so they are completely resting against their physical homing endstops. When you turn the printer on, because the axes don't have to travel far to home, the CR-Touch pin successfully drops 8 out of 10 times.

Why This Works (The Technical Breakdown)

If this trick works for you, it proves your printer has a factory defect related to electrical current distribution or ribbon cable strain, rather than a broken sensor. Here is why pre-parking the axes forces the CR-Touch to behave:

1. Zero Motor Current Draw (No Voltage Sag): When the printer boots up and tries to home from a distance, the motherboard immediately sends a heavy rush of current to drive the X and Y stepper motors. If there is high resistance on the mainboard's power rails from the factory, this causes a brief voltage sag. Because your axes are already touching the endstops at boot, the motors draw zero initial power. This leaves maximum, clean 5V electrical current available for the CR-Touch's internal solenoid coil to successfully kick the pin down.

2. Perfect Cable Alignment & Relieved Strain: The toolhead ribbon cable bends and stretches as it moves. When the toolhead is parked all the way to the far left (X-home), the cable is forced into a fully relaxed, compressed position. If your factory harness has a loose crimp or a micro-break in the wire, this specific position physically pushes the internal copper wires together, bridging the loose connection right when the printer performs its startup check.

3. Elimination of Travel Harmonics: Driving a heavy bed and toolhead across the frame creates small structural vibrations. If your CR-Touch sensor housing was over-tightened or warped at the factory, those travel vibrations are just enough to jam the pin inside its plastic channel. Turning it on while already parked eliminates this shaking entirely.

What This Means For You

While this is a great temporary workaround to get prints started, it confirms a hardware defect (likely a poorly crimped printhead cable harness or an internal power rail bottleneck on the board).

If you are experiencing this, check your toolhead cable connections or use this trick to print a cable strain relief bracket before the wire degrades further!
