A storage case for the TS80P soldering iron by Miniware. The case has space for the TS80P soldering iron and five interchangeable tips, as well as a couple storage areas for a USB-C cable, tube of solder wire, or whatever else you can find to cram in there.

The case is print-in-place and is held closed by two snap-joint tabs. The standard model has debossed text on the case lid, but there is also a MMU version available.

There are also standard and MMU versions of the case available without the internal compartment doors, which can then be printed separately in different materials and/or colors.

Print Recommendations:

  • PLA or PETG (or whatever your favorite material happens to be).
  • 0.4mm nozzle at 0.2mm layer height.
  • For 0.6mm nozzle at 0.3mm layer height, add the following height range modifier for the hinge area: 14-22mm at 0.2mm layer height.
  • 3 perimeters.
  • 1.2mm top/bottom thickness.
  • 10-20% infill; pick your favorite pattern.

Freeing the Hinges:

Once the print is complete, carefully work the compartment doors free, a little bit at a time until you're able to close them. The hinge pins for the compartment doors are not very robust, so be careful not to apply too much force to the doors when working them free.

After the compartment doors are freed and closed, begin working the main hinge of the case in the same manner; a little at a time back and forth until the hinge breaks free and allows the case to close.

Drop your TS80P in the case and enjoy!

Printing Replacement Compartment Doors:

  • Printing the compartment doors separately from the case works with both PETG and PLA (other materials not tested, but may also work).
  • Replacement doors can be printed without support, however there will likely be a need for some post-processing/clean up/shaping on the door hinge pins in order for them to fit in the hinge-pin holes in the case.
  • Removal of the original doors and installation of the replacement doors can be accomplished by bowing the doors at the mid-point while the door is in a vertical orientation.
  • In the photo below: the PETG doors are in Prusa Orange and the PLA doors are in Viva La Bronze.

Note:

A special thanks to aard for the feedback and suggestions provided during testing, which were very helpful in improving upon the design of this case!
