Fit the mounts in opposite plane, i.e. rear light to horizontal stay. In my case for Recumbent Tricycle.

I have a great set of lights, however I have a HP Velotechnik Recumbent Tricyle, which means I don't have the traditional handlebars, or seat post on which to mount my lights. I needed to be able to mount the rear on the chain stay, and the front (see other model) to the main boom.
At the moment, I'm simply mounting this with cable-ties. I may modify this in the future to take advantage of some unused brake bosses.
The perforation exists for no other reason than to save a little filament.
I hope this helps. Please leave a like if it does, and post any makes or remixes.
