12/28/2022 - This remix does not currently support all extruder types, I may add parts for the rest if people are interested. I have also included my Fusion 360 file if you would like to use the parts to make a version for your extruder.

This is a remix of the Manta MK2 cooling duct system to add a cable chain for the hotend assembly. This project is a work in progress and the only tested mount is the BMG Direct Drive, however, the rest are based on this one so they should work the same. Any feedback is much appreciated and I am willing to make updates if anyone has suggestions. Please take a look at the following sections to see what parts you will need and how to print.

Items Needed For Direct Drive Systems

  • DD-Mount (that matches your extruder)
  • X-Stop-Housing-DD

Items Needed for Boden Systems

  • Boden-Duct-Base-Cable-Chain
  • X-Stop-Housing-Boden-Base
  • X-Stop-Housing-Boden-Top
  • X-Stop-Housing-Boden-Bottom
  • m3 Threaded Inserts 5mm OD 5mm Length (2)
  • m3 6mm screws (2)

Items Needed for both

  • CableChain-Side-Mount
  • CableChain-Links
  • CableChain-Covers
  • CableChain-Hot-End-Cover
  • The rest of the Manta MK2 parts for your setup

Cable Routing

For direct drive printers, the cables can be routed under the duct base and behind the extruder to the cable chain. You may want to use a small cut of cable sheathing for these sections. In my picture, you can see that my BL Touch is routed in the front, this is only because my cable just wasn't long enough, but it is better to route it the same as the other cables.
For Boden systems, the cables go up on the right side of the hot-end and around the Boden tube to the cable chain connector. You can route the cables in front or behind the tube. You may want to use a small section of cable sheathing to protect the cables.

Print Settings

I recommend using 3 perimeters/ walls to ensure the part is strong. I also recommend using PETG for these parts, ABS should work too but will likely be harder to print overhangs.

I tried my best to make prints work without supports but some supports will be needed. Please review the pictures which show where supports are needed for each item. You can use support painting in Prusaslicer or support blockers in Cura. The parts that need some supports are:

  • DD-Mounts
  • Boden-Duct-Base-Cable-Chain
  • X-Stop-Housing-DD
