Duvlan Keaton ergometer saddle adapter

The ordinary home trainers usually do not use standard bicycle saddles as known from outdoors. That is great disadvantage and literally “a pain in …”.

My second generation of the adapter is a blend of 3d printed adapter frame which is enforced with the metalic parts mimicing the common saddle tube. I used the simple saddle lock (old style) and M8x60mm bolt and nut to achieve the goal. 

It is used regularly more than a year and it still holds.

Additional parts required:

1x saddle lock assembly Decathlon or similar (as seen on picture)

1x M8x60mm bolt, coned head

1x M8 brake nut

1x washer, 1x spring washer

Printing instructions:

printer: does not matter

material: Prusament PETG or stronger

time: ~ 7h 45min

nozzle: 0.4 mm

layer: 0.2 mm

supports: none

infill: 100%

Tip:

Try 50 perimeters instead of 100% infill. The inner perimeters will fill the entire volume as well as rectilinear pattern does but the structure seems to become more tenacious to hold the load of the sportsman. Also, printing time is reduced in cca 1 hour. Print to the height in order to maximise lateral strenght of the adapter.

Postprocessing:

Cut the internal M8 thread all along the hole. Using a grease is recommended.

Assembly instructions:

insert the M8x60mm bolt into the hole from beneath the Adapter and turn it tight. Put washers atop and secure with brake nut. Use strenght caustiously.

Remove the bolt from the saddle lock, set it onto the adapter stick and screw it together.  Set the saddle into the saddle lock and tighten. Replace the original saddle with the assembled one and secure it in position as you like. Use the original knob assembly

It is recommended to secure the entire adapter with plastic ties in case it could break.
