Vase mode HexTray 60mm stackable.

Hi, thank you for being interested on this model.

I designed this tray cause I really love how the the Steve Hexagon Tray looks but I didn't like that it takes a lot of time, it has a lot of infill and a lot of wasted printing time traveling side to side to fill the gaps on the tray and printing infill.

I wanted a fast printable tray with the minimum material plausible while being strong and cause Nhchiu said that I should do it :D.

Specifications:

  • Vase mode printable.
  • 60mm hexagonal spaces, enough for many common pieces.
  • Chamfered bottom corners for ease of use.
  • Stackable, safe enough for moving them and temporal storage.
  • Non wasted material, it only use the needed material.
  • Printable with a 0.4mm nozzle.

Slicing instructions.

This instructions are for Prusa Slicer and Super Slicer, I may add other slicers in the future.

This instructions are for a 0.2mm layer height and some conservative speeds.

  1. When adding the .3mf file it should load like any other file, if for any reason it asks for mesh fixing just dismiss.

  2. Start with a 0.2mm layer height profile or make sure that you have 0.2mm layer configured.

  3. Activate "Spiral vase" option just like any other spiral vase print and select “Yes” if a popup window appears to accept the changes.

  4. The model have a base thickness of 1.2mm, you need to configure 6 bottom solid layers.

  5. The model walls are 1.2mm thick, adjust the extrusion width to a value higher than 0.6mm, 0.65mm is suggested (yes, you can do this with a 0.4mm nozzle).

  6. Tiny gaps are intended on the model for vase mode to work, we need to stop the slicer from ignoring these gaps, set the “gap closing radius” to 0.

  7. Since we are using a wider extrusion and only external perimeters we can adjust the printing speeds to go faster but also stay on the safe side of the printer capacity.

  8. Slice and print.

Note for advanced users:

This instructions above use pretty conservative parameters and only the next steps are needed for this print to work:

  • Step 3 (set vase mode on).
  • Step 4 (set 1.2mm of bottom layers, calculate your needed layers).
  • Step 5 (minimum extrusion width 0.6, I suggest setting a tinny bit higher).
  • Step 6 (set closing radius to 0).

If you know what you are doing you can go even faster and print this model in an hour with a V6 style hot end (using a max flow of 10mm^2/s)

You can print this with a high flow hot end and a 0.6mm nozzle, just make sure to calculate your speeds based on your maximum flow.

You can use a layer height of 0.3mm just mind your maximum flow and the bottom layers will be set to only 4 (1.2 mm)

Revisions history:

2023/06/29-R1

  • Added an elephant foot prevention chamfer.
  • Added a zig-zag perimeter closing feature trying to avoid the external wall splitting.
