This model aims to provide an extrremely lightweight and minimal fan mount that replaces the stock hotend shroud on the Ender 2 Pro.
The model works by implementing a magnet to allow for quick mounting/dismounting onto the metal part cooling frame, additionally uses the protuding nubs on the parts cooling frame as allignment for the mount. This part reuses the M3x14 screws and 40x40 fan from the stock machine.
* There are two options; Fat reuses existing M3x14 screws, and Thin uses self sourced M4x10 screws.
Materials:
- [Self Sourced] 1x 20x2mm Magnet (To attatch mount to metal frame)
- [Optional] 2x M3x10 Bolts (To attatch stock 40mm fan to mount)
Instructions:
- Print out the desired model. Check if it can fit the necessary 10x2mm magnet.
- Remove stock shroud by first unscrewing holding screw on the top-back of the hotend assembly. Use provided allen keys to help unclip the shroud.
- Unscrew the bolts holding the fan in place.
- Test fitment of print against the fan holes and the alligment nubs.
- Glue magnet into the printed recess, allowing time to properly dry/cure.
- Replace fan onto current mount, using the appropriate screw length for the chosen model. The screws should self tap into the holes.
- Align holes over the part cooling frame and magnet should hold the mount in place.
Notes:
- This part prints with rather tight tolerences. If having trouble you may find success printing at 103% scale.
- Included pictures show my first Iteration which uses 2 magnets. I've decided that two magnets was excessive and one magnet was sufficient.
- Included pictures show Thin model using M3x10 bolts.
- This parts cooling doesnt provide any direction ducts so may not be appropriate for anyone printing hightemps (PETg) or heatcreep worries.
- This model was personally for a lighter printhead to print faster, smaller prints. I commonly print 190°C - 200°C at 5mm³ Flowrate w/ 0.3mm nozzle.
- Undirected airflow doesnt seen to affect nozzle temp, even when printing as low as 190°C.
- This model was designed to replace my original ultra light fan mount, which was hotglueing the 40mm fan directly to the frame. Might have gained 2-3grams from the added weight of the screws and magnet unfortunately.
