Filament Spool Holder + Dry Box
My attempt at creating a filament spool holder for a drybox.
It is designed to support all sizes of spools and different forms of boxes while having a minimal footprint.
It works with 50mm up to 70mm spools.
The rollers are held from the inside to reduce the overall footprint of the holder.
The 14mm roller can support 70mm spools. But I would recommend the 16mm roller.
The spool holder also works standalone.
Let me know if you need different sizes or a smaller holder :)
Single Spool Holder:
If the spacing of the normal holder does not fit your box / the spool is to high, you can try to use two of the single holders.
Push Guide:
Use this to push the bearing into the roller. This will make sure they are pushed in properly.
Rollers:
Different lengths depending on the space and the need for the spool.
Moisture Meter:
Just a simple meter glued in using hot glue (because hot glue can be removed without any residue).
Silica Gel Container:
I used the https://www.printables.com/model/669387-silica-gel-box-spool-container-optimized-for-super silica gel box.
Materials:
I added some affiliate links to the products I used for my boxes.
- Boxes I used: https://amzn.to/3S0zTKK (needs a hot air gun to work with 70mm wide spools, 100% works with 60mm spools tho)
- Fittings for PTFE Tube: https://amzn.to/3RGCpUL
- Hygrometer: https://amzn.to/3TYVkgH
- Bearings 608: https://amzn.to/41URKWv
- Silica Gel: https://amzn.to/3RD0hbX (Hard to pick, check your local hardware store too. Ask for car dehumidifier. But mind that some (the cheaper ones) are made from other material that can not be filled into smaller boxes as easily)
Printing:
Print with supports, I used tree supports and they work like a charm.
I recommend to start with a single holder and check the clearance. Depending on the material and print settings, the model might need some scaling for the bearing to fit nicely.
Assembly:
I just glued the parts in using hot glue.
Why?, because every box is different.
Hot glue is removable without any residue and not very permanent.
If you need a different size, feel free to hit me up :)
