I designed this so I could use my Ottocast C5 motorcycle Carplay/Android Auto device (which cradle uses AMPS hole pattern on a RAM-Mount style mount as standard) so I could mount it on a Rokform base, allowing me to easily switch the device from my motorcycle to my car and quick release it when I park the motorcycle.
I know I could just use the RAM mounts, however I didnt want to use RAM mounts on my classic Beetle because if I used a suction cup mount it would be too bulky inside the car, and I didn't want to drill holes in the dashboard to fit a more compact RAM mount onto it. And as I am already used to using the Rokform ecossystem both on my car and motorcycle, I designed this.
I printed mine using CPE (Tritan) filament, which is my go-to filament for automotive parts, however you might get away with PETG for this use as well. However, if you plan on using this on a motorcycle, I HIGHLY recommend you use sturdier filaments such as Nylon (PA) or PA-CF. Keep in mind that if you use Nylon or other engineering-grade material its recommended to scale the model in the slicer in order to compensate for material shrinkage. Was tested in my Beetle and in my Royal Enfield Classic 350, depending on how much in terms of bumpy ride you do, it's advised to use a stronger material.
In my printer I needed no adjustments to the printed part, it fitted just nicely. However, if your printer is not perfectly calibrated, some minor deburring in the Rokform hole might be needed in order for the adapter to fit in the mount. Printed with 6 walls (for strength), 3 top, 3 bottom layers, using a 0.6mm nozzle. Infill used was gyroid, 25%. Adjust it according to your nozzle size.
The hole pattern was sized for 4mm bolts. I don't know if that's the standard for AMPS hole pattern or if other hole sizes are used by different manufacturers. That's another reason for using as much walls as possible, so you can enlarge the holes with a drill if needed without damaging the printed part. In terms of hardware you will need bolts, washers and nuts (preferably parlock nuts, in my case I didn't needed nuts because my cradle already had threaded inserts on it, but Garmin GPS mounts, for example, use nuts), length and thread size according to the size needed for your device.
The part was designed in a way that if needed it can be rotated 90 degrees according to the orientation of the AMPS hole pattern on your device. I DID consider making it with 8 holes (two rotated patterns) but the holes would be too close to each other for a 3D printed part so I made it with only four. If anyone needs it to have the holes rotated for any reason (in the case the part doesn't fit your cradle properly, as it is rectangular, not square) let me know so I can do it as well.
