What happens when a great system (Skadis) meets a great desk (Fredde)? Even more greatness!
Use these parts to easily and securely attach Skadis boards to the back of your Fredde desk.
Print settings:
- PETG/PLA/ABS/whatever
- layer height: 0.3mm
- walls: 3
- infill: irrelevant, most of the parts are made of walls
- supports: nah
I used both PLA and PETG, both work equally well since the top adapters only keep the boards vertical, and the bottom adapters are not subject to bending, but to some minimal shear, if we want to get very technical. The boards are not heavy. If you decide you want more support from the bottom, just print more bottom holders.
Disclaimer: the dimension match the scenario when you have the Fredde shelf with cable/headphone knobs mounted at the very top position. I'm too lazy to disassemble the desk to put it one “step” lower, but if someone provides measurements I'm willing to add modified top holders to the model.
Disclaimer 2: two Skadis boards together are 152cm wide, while the desk is 140cm (139.5cm to be exact). There are two options: you can cut the Skadis boards to 69.5cm (like I did), or leave them as-is and have ~6cm extending on both sides (or on one side, if you can have the line between the boards not at the midline of the desk). Up to you.
Finally, I used the optional self-tapping screws to attach the board to the vertical metal “legs” so that Skadis won't slide left or right by accident. This will void the warranty on the desk so be aware. I guess you can also use few pieces of the self-adhesive foam for a more temporary fix.
Disclaimer 3: After I printed the top distance/holder parts I've realized it could/should be revised to look better and be a single part, but it was the first revision and I don't feel like disassembling it :)
Hardware list:
- 2x Skadis board (duh!) - 76x56cm [103.471.71]
- 1x Fredde desk (rly?) - the tall one [502.190.44]
- 4x M5 x 60mm flat-headed bolts
- self-adhesive dual-side foam, 1-2mm thick
- (optional) 2x M4.2 x 25mm pan-head self-tapping screws
Print list:
- 4x holder_top.3mf
- 4x distance_top.3mf
- 2x holder_bottom_25mm.3mf
- 1x holder_bottom_50mm.3mf
Installation instructions:
- Orient the parts so that the parts that hold the sides of the boards are vertical. Screw holes have plenty of tolerance, the screw just must go through.
- Put the adhesive tape on the underside of the bottom holders (the tape sticks to the top of the tabletop)
- Glue the bottom holders onto the desk: the 25mm ones are right at the edges near the vertical metal legs, the 50mm goes in the middle
- Unscrew the cable holder knobs, save the original screws in that box where you keep all the stuff that might come in handy one day
- Take the longer screws, put them through the distance, then the hole in top holders, then through the shelf support, and screw on the knobs. For now, orient the holders horizontally to make it easier to install the boards
- Put one board on the bottom supports (if you decided to trim it, then the cut size is on the vertical leg side). Straighten the board vertically, and “turn” the top holders on.
- Do the same with the second. Ensure that there is no gap between the boards, that they are level, and that the gap is around the centerline of the desk.
- If all is ok, then tighten the top holders
- Enjoy Skadis mounted to your Fredde desk!
I'd appreciate any comments and suggestions. Post a make if you feel like it, and like the model if you like it :D
Cheers!
