This is a case for the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. The design for the case and its lid can be customized to expose or cover the various ports on the Raspberry Pi, and to have internal or external mounting holes. The Raspberry Pi PCB is held in by the case lid, which mounts using M2.5 socket-head screws. The case itself can be mounted to a surface using M3 flat-head screws. The case is 1.5in [38mm] wide, for convenient mounting to standard US 2x* dimensional lumber.

Additional hardware needed:

  • 4x M2.5 socket-head screws (to attach case lid to base)
  • 2-4x M3 flat-head screws (2x for internal mounting holes, 4x for flanges with external mounting holes)

The rPi case model is a composite of several parts which can be kept or deleted before printing to create a particular custom design. The following aspects can be customized by simply keeping or removing sub-parts that cover or fill various regions of the model:

  • (case bottom and lid) microUSB ports [case lid can be adjusted to add extra clearance for plugs]
  • (case bottom and lid) HDMI port [case lid can be adjusted to add extra clearance for HDMI plugs]
  • (case bottom) CSI-2 camera ribbon cable connector
  • (case bottom) microSD card slot [the slot makes it possible to insert a card without opening the case, but it may be difficult to remove the card]
  • (case bottom and lid) 0.1in main expansion header for rPi hats [be sure to also expose recesses in the bottom of the case allow space for the backside of the header pins]
  • (case lid) CPU airflow or heatsink hole [the hole may or may not fit particular heatsinks]
  • (case bottom) external mounting flanges
  • (case bottom) internal mounting holes

Open the included PrusaSlicer *.3mf file. This file already has the case bottom and lid oriented correctly on the print bed, and each case half has been split into named parts which can each be individually selected and deleted or kept to create the desired case (see the screenshots for this model).

Alternatively:

  1. orient the design files in the slicer so the bottom of the case and the top of the lid are flat against the print bed
  2. split the design design files into separate parts
  3. keep or delete the case parts as desired to create the desired case
  4. slice and print

One downside to the second approach is that after being split, the resulting parts may not have clear names, making it necessary to select each one to see where it fits into the overall case design.

The case bottom and lid can each be printed without supports, but you may want to enable organic supports strictly for the screw holes in the lid. A 3mm drill bit can be used to clean up the screw holes in the lid.

STL and STEP files are included for further customization and remixes.

If you print this case, please post a make with photos of your customized design.
