A friend asked me to 3D print a Gameboy cartridge in transparent orange filament to create OrangeGB.

I came across this excellent work by PizzaHandhelds who optimized the Gameboy cartridge design for 3d printing.

I don't have SolidWorks to modify the provided SLPRT files myself. So I added a part modifier in PrusaSlicer to fill in the gaps allowing him a tiny bit more room to work with.

Only the back shell was modified but I've included the front for completion.

Printing Settings

Open the provided 3MF file and select Open as Project it will have the following configuration below.

  • 0.2mm STRUCTURAL print profile
    • Prints slowly
    • Modified part only works on 0.2mm layer height
  • Supports
    • For support enforcers only
    • Paint on supports for 45 degree overhangs
  • Paint on supports (These are so minor you can snap both pieces together anyway without having to remove them)
  • Infill
    • Fill density: 20%
    • Fill pattern: Aligned Rectilinear
    • Top fill pattern : Aligned Rectilinear
    • Bottom fill pattern: Aligned Rectilinear

Printed in PLA but I'm sure PETG works great too! Grey cartridge for comparison.

Big thank you to PizzaHandhelds once again!
