Overview

I liked the original remix, however there was no good way for me to route the webcam ribbon cable to the right side of the printer, so I needed something that attaches on the left side.

This idea came with multiple more things that I had to consider like clearances for the webcam mount and BLTouch requiring some re-designing. Thanks to the original remix creator attaching STEP files I was able to adjust screw hole distances perfectly (based on pi display technical drawing) for the outer mount points.

I also had to make a couple of changes (extrusion cuts) around the part that attaches to the printer as the printer's MCU box attaches in that area.

Protip: Install GPIO wire headers after inserting the frame over raspi, but before screwing the screen into the frame.

Note: You might need to flip the camera upside down for the ribbon cable to go upwards, then flip the video in software.

Overall quite happy with the outcome, there isn't much wiggle at all and it feels securely attached to the printer.

Parts needed:

  • 2x M5x10 or longer, but no longer than M5x16 - to attach the mount to printer “leg”.
  • 4x M3x4 screws for the display to be mounted.

Printer settings:

  1. Orient the part display-face-down, that will allow for the least supports.
  2. Enable brim, 10-15 lines to avoid lifting.
  3. Either disable supports or enable tree supports only over 55 degrees. Add support blockers around screw holes, they don't need them. See photos.
  4. I used PLA, 0.3 layer height, 3 perimeters, 20% gyroid infill. Feel free to experiment.

Print took just under 3h at 100mm/s on my modded Ender 3 running Klipper.

STL + STEP file included for editing/remixing purposes.
