Tl;dr print this and put it around your SCH40 4" PVC sewer cleanout to protect it. Minimize impacts from lawn upkeep while making the target slightly bigger so that even as grass grows in you can still find the cleanout.
Why?
I ran over my sewer cleanout and destroyed it with a lawnmower… twice. I chose to reset the cleanout to be lower than my mow height, but I found myself struggling to set the grade just right in the area and concerned that it would be difficult to monitor as settling occurred and grass grew back. And if I goofed up again, I wanted to make sure that I minimized damage to the cleanout itself. There is where the cleanout protector comes in!
My goal with this device is twofold:
1. Be a sacrificial ring so that if the mower hits it again, the printed part breaks first
2. Assist in setting grade and maintaining grade over time
Instructions
Print in a UV resistent material. No strict requirements on infill or layer height – it's just a donut after all.
Consider painting afterwards to blend in to your native pallet.
Other solutions
A similar product exists for sprinklers, albeit concrete (e.g. https://www.sprinklerwarehouse.com/product/lawn-irrigation/sprinkler-heads/concrete-donuts?srsltid=AfmBOop25tYgI-Ge7IrD7g19Fxe7Tqt18qkwSzXtZ4sVRJbMeV1Xgq1g). There's also a marketed product but every time I've checked, its not been available for sale: https://www.sewersaver.net/.
