3D printable protective case compatible with WF-1000XM4 earbuds

I recently went to treat myself a little bit and spent a little extra money for a new set of bluetooth earbuds. These WF-1000XM4 earbuds are amazing… and have the price tag to match (for a relatively broke university student, at least lol).

Wanting to attempt to preserve them, I designed this case to try to protect them at least a little from drops. The top piece fits snug as-printed, but the bottom piece is left ever so slightly wide to allow for a cushiony shim to be placed inside to help maintain pressure on the main body of the earbuds case. I personally used a section of electrical tape, 3 layers folded on top of themselves with a final length of ~40mm and sandwiched it in-between the front of the actual earbuds case and the printed one.

Here is some additional info about how I printed it:

Printer: Prusa i3MK3s+

Filament: Esun Pla PRO (Pla+)

Nozzle size: 0.4mm

Layer height preset: 0.15mm QUALITY

Perimeters (Top piece): 2

Perimeters (Bottom piece): 1

Infill: 10% adaptive cubic

Supports: None (print with flat side touching build plate)

While I generally max out perimeters for added strength, in this case I aimed for the print to act as a crumple zone in the event of a drop to protect the actual earbuds.

Both wired and wireless charging are still fully usable and accessible without removing the case (although the base does begin to get just a bit warm to the touch with wireless charging).
