Squash Ball Upgrade
Upgraded squash ball design for printers with squash ball feet
*Allows modification of infill and wall thickness.
I have been getting about 3-6 months out of my squash ball feet until they are damaged from the weight and heat inside my printer chamber. Once they become compressed, they are limited for absorbing vibration and energy.
Others have designed replacements for squash balls made from TPU, but these are an exact replacement and do not allow you to add infill or modify the wall thickness. I needed an UPGRADED squash ball design that would resist crushing in the Z axis, while still being able to absorb energy and vibration in the X and Y axis.
I have redesigned the squash ball allowing it to be printed in TPU and have the walls/infill modified to your needs. I have also included an additional design that incorporates a vertical inner tube which will strengthen the Z axis of the ball, limiting it's crushing under load. The tube design can be used with inserts or alone as desired. See images for length of internal tube.
Use the solid Squash Ball model if you do not wish to use the inside tube design.
[Update 08-29-2025] Added new tube tips with wider flat pads.
Infill amounts will effect your compression and energy absorption. 30% yields a pretty firm, solid ball. For my own use, I settled with 15% infill. If your printer is not too heavy, you can print with zero infill, just adjust your wall thickness to your desired size.
TPU 0.2LH 1-4 or more walls 0-30% Infill, Outside Bridge, Standard Cubic Infill
