Often cardboard spools are quite rough and tend to jump out of position with a onesided spool holder, therefore i designed an internal spool roller with 4 individual rollers. Moreover you are able to load the filament from the front, which makes life way easier.
Pros :
Cardboard safe - 4 individual rollers for safe rolling
Multiple spool size - 55mm up to 70mm spools
Front loading the filament into the PTFE tube - way easier
Uses easy to source 625ZZ bearings - every Ender3 wheel contains two of them
Chamfered outer rollers - makes loading the spool easier
You can mount the roller left and right - Mirrored STL's are provided
Cons:
Protrudes over the acrylic deckplate - you need to remove the spool rollers if you want to work on your reverse electronics bay
…design is not yet longterm tested - you are a tester!
BOM :
6x 625ZZ bearings
1x ECAS04 PTFE adapter
1x M3 heatset insert
1x M3x8mm screw
2x M5x12mm screw (flathead)
2x M5x16mm screw (flathead)
2x M5x20mm screw (flathead)
(Optional - 10mm wide, 2mm thick silicon spacers)
Note :
The roller contains two 1,7mm deep pockets on the inner legs, you can glue in some 2x10mm silicon pads to prevent scratching and vibrations on the acrylic deckplate
UPDATE :
18.04.2026 - uploaded CAD files
Printing :
Recommend printing in ABS/ASA due to heat. 4 walls, 20% infill. Outer rollers are a bit tricky to print due to the chamfers - print slow!
