Block glare for security cameras that are blinded by street lights or sunlight during the day, and even block IR lighting emitting from other cameras.
Could also be used to block irrelevant areas of the camera view that trigger too much motion, or be used in agreement with your neighbors that you will not record "this part of their house", etc.
You can clip this at the soffit vent edge to overlap areas in front of the camera view. This can help with night time recording / observation. I use this for a camera with IR backup lighting DISABLED at night.
Print using White PETG using 0.2mm layer height, 11 Perimeter walls and 100% infill. Print flat on the side for maximum strength. This model specifically recommends PETG filament for spring tension strength.
Recommended (but not required): Use a black color swap for 3 layers halfway through the print, then switch back to white. This should block out additional light. For instance, this could help to block out extremely bright sun glare during certain times of the day. Perform Filament color changes (M600 Klipper command TWICE) or use an automated MMU / AMS system. Using PLA is not recommended due to outdoor temperature conditions and deformation under load.
If the soffit clip is too narrow, try increasing the model scale. Let me know which percent works for you in the comments!
When printed in White, it blends in very well with the rest of the camera picture during the day. It is barely noticeable. Or use a color that matches the back ground picture so the part is barely noticeable during the day.
There are three designs:
First is the default model
Second and third are a little wider / longer to cover sunrise or sunsets across the seasons of the year.
Third model is for anyone to create their own shade blocker shape, which can even be done in the slicer. Use the model that suits your needs.
I also included the Fusion 360 .f3d project file.
This is just the first version of this Security cam light shade blocker and hopefully some user input or remixes can improve upon it's design.
Please comment if you need help with changes to the design. I am open to suggestions!
Update: After 1 full year, the PETG clips will warp and lose clip tension. I reprinted and replaced mine. I will need to redesign these to ensure they are more reliable, if this model becomes more popular, or if someone else can remix it for me :)
