Advantages compared to the 2-part design:
Easier handling: No need to slice, align, and assemble two pieces – now it’s a single print job. This saves time and reduces the chance of errors.
Better stability: Printing in ABS (or similar materials) makes it difficult to glue or fit two parts together precisely. The one-part design removes this problem completely.
Perfect for multicolor printers: The color-separated areas are directly integrated into the model, making it much cleaner and more reliable to print with multi-material systems.
Improved surface quality: With no seams or assembly joints, you get a smoother finish and a more uniform light diffusion.
Material recommendation
I printed the Lightbox in ABS, specifically:
eSun ABS+ in Fireengine Red
ColorNatural ABS for the translucent parts
The original 2-part design is quite difficult to print in ABS due to warping and shrinkage issues when trying to fit the parts together. With this one-part solution, the print comes out clean, precise, and requires no post-processing.
👉 This remix is especially useful for anyone using a multi-color printer and looking for a stable, clean, and easy-to-print solution.
