Elevator Pitch: This is a yarn skein holder I made in order to make knitting or crocheting easier than having to flop around a skein in your lap, constantly tug on it to get some excess yarn available, or snag it on nearby things.

REQUIRED:

Build Notes:

  • Both the base and the rod were printed on a 256 x 256 plate.
  • The rod is printed standing up, however there may be a point (depending on your printer) that it will have a hard time finishing the tip. If you notice the rod wobbling too much and the filament isn't laying down properly, just stop the print and use cutters to trim the tip.
  • The tip is not required to come to a fine point.
  • You could go for an even longer rod if you laid it down diagonally on your print bed, or if you have a Z limit of less than 256, I would go that route and turn on supports.
  • The rod is exactly 7.9 mm, while the 608 bearing inner hole diameter is 8.0 mm, which should fit snug.
  • There are 8.1 mm holes on the bottom if you'd like to incorporate 8 x 2 mm magnets. The magnets won't stay in with friction alone, I used superglue to ensure they wouldn't pull away with opposing magnetic force.
