Cyber Frame is a modular, 3D-printed cyber-style rack system. It started as two things:

  • Wanting a super cool cyber / Tron-looking piece of furniture

  • Wanting to design my own version of a mini rack that was different from what already exists

It’s not trying to be better than other racks — just different.

This is an ALPHA release.

What This Is

Cyber Frame is a rack system with:

  • Integrated LED channels

  • Internal wiring paths

  • Support for acrylic side panels

  • Modular U-height and width

  • Rack mounting on all four sides

The same parts are intended to be reused to build:

  • Mini racks

  • NAS enclosures

  • Coffee tables

  • Desks

  • Wall-mounted displays

  • Whatever else makes sense later

Design Notes (Why This Exists)

I wanted something that looked like cyber furniture, not lab equipment.

At the same time, I wanted to build a mini rack that didn’t follow the usual layout or assumptions. Not necessarily better — just something with more personality, lighting, and flexibility.

The corner parts ended up doing a lot of the heavy lifting. They let me hide LEDs, hold panels, and keep everything compact without stacking extra brackets everywhere. Once those were working, it became easy to build different sizes and variations without starting over.

This project isn’t about optimization or solving a problem. It’s about building something that looks good, is fun to work on, and can grow in weird directions over time.

Corner System & Acrylic Panels

Each corner includes:

  • Structural support

  • Internal LED routing

  • Rack rail alignment

  • A built-in channel for 1/8″ acrylic panels

Panels must be installed during assembly.

You can use:

  • Clear acrylic

  • Frosted or smoked acrylic

  • Custom-cut panels

  • Or no panels at all

Panels are optional, but the frame is designed to support them without extra hardware.

Rack U on All Four Sides

The frame is rack-U wide on all four sides.

This allows:

  • Mounting gear on any face

  • Very compact layouts

  • Rotating the rack to change how it’s used

  • Hybrid builds (10″ on one side, 19″ on another)

There’s no fixed “front” or “back.” Use whichever side makes sense for your setup.

Modular Expansion

Next files to be released are:

  • U-height extensions

  • 9″ width extensions for building 19″ racks

This makes it possible to:

  • Expand from 10″ → 19″

  • Build hybrid racks

  • Create custom sizes without redesigning the frame

LED System & Diffusers

Cyber Frame has integrated LED channels throughout the frame.

LED Diffusers

  • Included diffusers are v2

  • v1 was never released

  • Redesigned to add tolerance and prevent cracking

  • Recommended to print at 98–99% scale depending on your printer

COB LED strips give the cleanest look, but standard WS2812 strips work fine with diffusers.

Top Quadrant Joining Options

Top quadrants are joined using removable bars. Three options are supported:

Printed with or without Heat-Set Inserts

  • Same profile with inserts

  • Much stronger

  • Recommended for most builds

  • Without Heatset Inserts, use T Nuts

80/20 Aluminum Extrusion

  • 1 × ½″ 80/20 extrusion

  • Maximum rigidity

  • Best for stacked or heavy builds

Assembly Notes

This is not a snap-fit build.
Assembly order matters due to wiring.

Recommended Order

  1. Install all heat-set inserts (required)

  2. Assemble top quadrants and corners

  3. Run all wiring before installing LEDs

  4. Join quadrants using your chosen method

  5. Assemble the full frame

  6. Install LED strips and test

  7. Install diffusers

  8. Route wiring to the bottom

  9. Install LED controller (DIG Quad supported)

Once assembled, the rack is not meant to be taken apart repeatedly.

Hardware Info

Rack 'U's: #10-32
Top Quadrants: #4-40
All else (Quadrant joining bars, accessory areas on quads: #6-32

Current State (v.Alpha)

Working well:

  • LED diffusers fit properly

  • Frame is solid once assembled

  • Wiring paths work

  • DIG Quad mount fits

Still in progress:

  • Refining top joining solutions

  • Handle-compatible tops

  • Pixel matrix top

  • Vanity plate / LED display corners

What’s Coming Next

Planned work:

  • Vanity plate corners (lit nameplates / IDs)

  • LED screen integration (screens inbound)

  • Pixel matrix top variants

  • Handle-compatible tops

  • Wall-mount cable management

This project will keep evolving.

Final Notes

  • This is ALPHA

  • Expect changes

  • Expect revisions

Cyber Frame is about style, experimentation, and flexibility, not minimum cost or mass production.
