Desctiption
This project is a fully functional V8 DOHC engine model designed for 3D printing.
It features a realistic dual overhead camshaft layout with an advanced three-loop timing chain system, moving pistons and valves, and a correct V8 firing order.
The model is designed as a mechanical assembly, not a static display — all major components move and interact, closely reflecting real combustion engine kinematics.
Dimentions: ~200 mm x 170 mm x 100mm
Estimated printing time (0.16mm): ~22h
Estimated filament usage: ~400g
🔧 Key Features
Fully functional DOHC valvetrain (intake and exhaust camshafts per cylinder bank)
Advanced three-loop timing chain system
Moving crankshaft, pistons and valves
Correct firing order: 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
Chain-driven timing system with tensioner and guides
Can be rotated manually or powered by a DC motor
Designed around standard 606 and 608 bearings (printable bearing models included) and metric M3 / M4 screws
📦 What’s Included
Complete set of printable parts (.3mf files with optimized orientations)
Detailed step-by-step assembly instructions with exploded views
Printing guidelines and troubleshooting tips
All files are prepared to make printing and assembly as straightforward as possible.
🔩 Assembly & Hardware
The model is assembled using standard metric hardware:
Bearings: 9x 606, 2x 608 (commercial recommended, printable versions included)
Screws: M3 / M4 with nuts (23 pcs, 10, 16, 20, 25mm lenght, exact list provided in the instruction)
DC motor: TT type, geared , 48:1 ratio - Optional.
No special tools are required beyond basic hand tools.
🖨 Printing Notes
Most components are designed to print without supports.
Selected parts such as camshafts, crankshaft and valves require specific orientations and supports — all critical details are clearly explained in the assembly manual.
Developed and tested with:
Printer: Creality K1C
Materials: PLA / PLA+
Nozzle: 0.4 mm
Layer height: 0.16 mm
🧠 Skill Level
⚠ This is an advanced mechanical model. Basic experience with 3D printing and mechanical assembly is recommended. This model is intended as an educational and demonstration piece, not a toy.
