Jig with a base consisting of a ball-joint and a threaded compression ring. Combined with a 2020 aluminum extrusion, it will allow for model ships to be mounted sturdy. The jig allows for easy rotation and tilting of the model for easy access while building, painting or finishing.
Different clamps and fixtures can be mounted to the aluminium rail for safe mounting of the model. By combining rails and clamps, the jig can be adopted to any kind of model building (planes, cars etc).
In addition to the printed parts, you will need:
70-80mm M6 bolt with countersink head, and nut.
2020 or 2040 standard aluminium extrusion (can be substituted by a piece of wood or other material). Length 300-600mm.
4x M3 or M4 bolts and nuts for the keel-clamps. Heat-inserts recommended.
4x M5x12mm bolts for attaching the alu extrusion.
4x M5 sliding tee-nuts for the alu extrusion.
Can be screwed down directly to the workbench, or you can attach it to a base of wood. An other option is to print and use the desk clamp addon.
Print with increased wall thickness for strength in threads (4-5 layers horiz/vert recommended). Tested and works great in PLA or PETG. All parts prints without support, except the desk clamp addon.
After test mounting and making sure the parts fit, use a little (ca)-glue between the half-spheres, and between the distance tube and rail fixture. Lubricate the threads and all mechanical parts.
