What

This is a cup riser / elevated drip tray for the Breville Bambino Plus espresso machine. It brings small cups a bit closer to the portafilter in order to (1) reduce splashing within the cup due to a long drip distance, and (2) potentially also reduce mess outside the cup due to spraying (e.g. from a bottomless portafilter). It also provides a flat platform for a scale without the water level indicator or milk temp sensor getting in the way.

Features

Height

34 mm (leaves about 100 mm clearance between riser and portafilter)

Fit Guide

200–300 ml round latte cups on a small scale* fit without issue

Drip Cutout

Center circle for bottomless portafilter / spoutless

Registration

Two pegs (self-aligning over a decent area) slot into the base drip tray

*The scale in the photos is a Bookoo Themis Mini which is 80 x 80 x 15 mm. I haven't tried these except in CAD, but an Acaia Lunar (105 x 105 x 15 mm) or Varia AKU (120 x 100 x 19 mm) scale should also fit (just).

Slicer Settings

Purely for reference, here were my parameters. I make no claim that they are optimal, so feel free to experiment / adjust.

Orientation

Upside down (tray facing the plate); that way requires no supports.

Filament

I used PLA. Warning: PLA can't withstand hot water over ~60° C / 140° F, so either avoid drips, clean them immediately, or use a different material.

Walls

3

Infill

25% adaptive cubic

Top and bottom layers

5 each

The above required ~90 g of filament and ~2.5 hours.

IAQs (Infrequently Asked Questions)

Why is the rear center leg 1mm short?

My stock drip tray is convex. If the center leg is full height, it creates a fulcrum for the riser to rock back and forth on. Conversely, a shallow center leg on a flat or concave base tray will either be irrelevant, or at worst act as a sag-stopper under heavy deformation.

Why is the right-back section cut back that far?

If you "flick" the steam wand down, it over-extends past the resting point before springing back. The riser is cut back to clear this extension so that the steam wand doesn't knock into it. (If you really fling it hard it can still knock it, so... don't do that.)

Isn't this non-food-safe?

I suppose, but I'm not actually eating or drinking anything that comes into direct contact with it. I'm also wiping it dry immediately if it ever gets wet. If you're worried, you could always print it in a food-grade material and/or seal it in food-safe epoxy / resin.

Can you make it X height / have different spout drip cutouts / other?

This was my first "real" Fusion project and the parameterization isn't the best, so the answer is "probably yes, but it would take a little extra work." Feel free to leave comments / requests though.
