The fan is upside down now. Part cooling is dead. Long live the mcu!

Remember in Star Trek when they divert power to other parts of the ship to survive? Me too! I am the Captain now. Maybe I’m Scotty. Either way, we’re going to make it.

ABS doesn't use parts cooling so it infuriates me, waking up to ruined prints from mcu heat soak while that perfectly good fan stares at me. Mocking me. I know this isn't normal. I'm getting help. But sometimes you gotta establish dominance.

The SV08 toolhead mcu tends to overheat on long prints without a cooling fan. It's worse if enclosed or with a really hot bed. The problem is, the connector used by the mcu for this fan is a picoblade 1.25mm and I couldn't find fans with that connector. Not in my house, not on Amazon, not even on SOVOL’s website! So with an overheating printer, crimping kits on the way, and nothing to lose, I innovated. Pivoted. Jerry-rigged. I stole it. I'll give it back. I promise.

With this "quick to print" tool head shroud, you can now reduce the normal heat soaked temperature of your tool head mcu from 60*C to below 50*C while running a bed temp of 100*C and a hot end at 260*C. As long as you don't need parts cooling. Or much of it. That back up dancer rear part cooling fan is still there, but I don't think he does much. Lazy.

Specifics:

Material: ABS 0.20mm layers. I used a brim and draft shield because I don't have an enclosed printer and wanted to be super safe. Printed with no issues.

Magnets: 5x3mm like the original I remixed.

Mcu connection: Many of the shrouds that add an extra tool head mcu fan use the top right connector. I added the same code to my printer.cfg so I'm using the port as intended once my crimping supplies arrive. No funny business reprogramming the regular parts cooling fan header. Here's the code:

[heater_fan toolhead_mcu_fan]           # Cooling fan for toolhead MCU board
pin: extra_mcu:PB0                      # PWM pin (top right fan connector)
max_power: 1
fan_speed: 0.5                          # Runs at 50% when active
kick_start_time: 0.5                    # Start burst
heater: extruder                        # Tied to hotend temp
heater_temp: 45                         # Turns on above 45°C
