Hello everybody,
I designed a read head for the IR interface of my smart meter. Although I developed it for an Iskra meter, it should be compatible with most standard meters.
The design uses a standard TTL optical interface board purchased on eBay together with a Seeed Studio ESP32-C6. I chose the ESP32-C6 because it provides a connector for an external UFL antenna, allowing improved Wi-Fi reception inside a meter cabinet.
The enclosure accommodates four 4 × 2 mm magnets for securely attaching the read head to the meter.
Assembly requires two M2.5 screws and two M2.5 heat-set inserts.
I currently use the device with ESPHome, but it should also be compatible with Tasmota.
