Tired of your Wolf gas surface burner knob slowly drifting or moving by itself while cooking? This is a very common issue on Wolf gas ranges, rangetops, and cooktops. The knob often drifts from medium toward low, even on newer units.

Official Sub-Zero/Wolf support states there is no customer troubleshooting and recommends replacing the burner valves — an expensive repair involving parts + service labor.

This simple 3D printed TPU friction ring solves the problem without replacing valves. It fits between the knob and the appliance panel, adding just enough resistance to keep the knob firmly in your chosen position while still allowing smooth, normal adjustment.

Why this works & saves you money By adding controlled external friction at the knob interface, the ring stops the annoying drift without modifying the gas valve itself. You can avoid hundreds (or thousands) of dollars in valve replacements and service calls.

Three Sizes Included (adjustable resistance)

All versions have:

  • Outer Diameter: 61.3 mm

  • Height: 20 mm

Inner Diameter options:

  • 58.3 mm ID — Tightest fit / maximum resistance

  • 58.5 mm ID — Balanced / recommended starting point for most users

  • 58.7 mm ID — Loosest fit / lightest resistance

Installation

  • Pull the knob straight off the valve stem.

  • Slide the TPU ring over the valve stem and set it flat against the metal panel.

  • Push the knob firmly back onto the valve stem. Keep the ring centered as you press the knob on.

  • Once the knob is fully seated, press the ring down so it sits flush against the metal panel.

Test — set the burner to medium and confirm it stays put.
The fix is completely reversible. Just remove the ring if you ever want to.

Durability Note TPU is a durable and flexible material; however, repeated use, heat exposure, and mechanical wear will cause the ring to gradually compress or degrade over time. Periodic inspection and replacement of the friction ring is recommended to maintain consistent knob resistance. I expect to replace it, maybe a good idea to print a few spares.

Important Safety Note

This is a DIY workaround that adds friction to the knob. It does not repair internal wear in the gas valve. Always verify that your burners ignite reliably and respond correctly to knob position. If you smell gas or have any safety concerns with your appliance, stop using it and contact a Factory Certified Service technician immediately. This design is not affiliated with or endorsed by Wolf or Sub-Zero. Use at your own discretion and test thoroughly.

Tested on Wolf gas surface burners to keep knobs from drifting out of position.
