Envelope Holder with Tulle Insert

A decorative 3D-printed envelope holder featuring a real fabric/tulle insert.

The fabric is not printed. Instead, the model is designed to be printed in two stages, allowing the fabric to be placed and secured directly inside the print.

How it works

The model is printed up to approximately half of the final thickness. At this point, pause the print and place a piece of tulle or thin mesh fabric over the designated area.

Secure the fabric in position using small magnets or another suitable method, making sure it is flat and properly aligned.

Resume the print. The printer will then continue printing the remaining layers, effectively sandwiching the fabric between the printed layers and permanently securing it in place.

This technique creates a lightweight and decorative mesh effect that would be difficult to achieve with 3D printing alone.

Features

  • 3D-printed frame with a real fabric/tulle insert

  • Fabric is securely embedded into the print

  • Requires a pause during printing

  • Lightweight and decorative

  • Suitable for envelopes, invitations, greeting cards and special occasions

  • Can be customized with different colors and types of fabric

  • Great for weddings, birthdays, invitations and gifts

Materials

  • PLA or another suitable 3D printing filament

  • Thin tulle or mesh fabric

  • Small magnets for temporarily holding the fabric in place during printing

Printing Instructions

  1. Start printing the model normally.

  2. Pause the print at the specified layer/height, when approximately half of the final thickness has been printed.

  3. Carefully place the tulle/fabric over the designated area.

  4. Stretch the fabric gently so that it is flat and wrinkle-free.

  5. Secure the fabric with small magnets around the edges.

  6. Make sure the fabric does not interfere with the moving print head.

  7. Resume the print.

  8. The remaining layers will cover the edges of the fabric and lock it into the model.

Important: Always make sure the fabric and magnets are positioned safely and cannot come into contact with the nozzle or moving parts of the printer.

The result is a unique combination of 3D printing and fabric, creating a delicate mesh appearance while keeping the structure rigid and durable.
