This model came from a project I did for your school beginners from kindergarten I posted some time ago on reddit (and here). The owl for the kindergarten kids had their names on them. The bottom part was suggested by fellow reddit users to hide the name when attached on the schoolbag.

Also check out my ghost version of the safety light!

Emboss your (Kid's) Name on the Owl

This version has no name, however you can use the onshape version here to emboss a name by using the configuration settings:

How to Print

The owl is easy to print and build. You can put it on any backpack, school bag or even your or your kid's jacket to improve visibility when its getting darker outside.

Download and open the 3MF file with everything set to go, or:

  • For filament I strongly recommend Lithopane filament for translucency.

  • Choose a low layer height (e.g., 0.15mm)

  • Paint on support enforcers on the inside of the head.

  • You may use on the bottom part on the bottom part

  • Make sure you randomize seams

How to Build

Lights

The light inside are HL lights with (see here) you can buy from any of the large retailers. Their specs are:

  • 3cm diameter

  • waterproof

  • turn at the bottom to switch on/off

You can also try other similar lights. You may have to adjust the scaling for different diameters. Happy to hear from your experience!

Build

Print, push in the light from the bottom, put a keyring/strong string/small chain on and hang it wherever you need it. That's it.
