This tool is commonly used to analyze dents and surface damage on aircraft structures, but it can also be used for many other applications.
The nominal resolution is 10 mm. Originally, the design was based on a 10 × 10 mm grid; however, to improve practical usability, 9 mm diameter holes were incorporated within each 10 × 10 mm square. The holes were intentionally sized at 9 mm rather than 10 mm to leave sufficient material between adjacent holes, ensuring the tool remains structurally intact and durable during use.
As the tool consists of 20 holes in both the X and Y directions at a 10 mm pitch, the distance between the edges of the two outermost holes is 200 mm (20 cm) in both directions.
The final dimensions may be significantly affected by the printer settings, printer calibration, and the material used. Therefore, it is recommended to print and evaluate an initial prototype and fine-tune the dimensions as necessary before producing the final version.
