This is a quick enclosure I threw together to hold a PicoLas PLCS-21 unit when being used as an independent pulse generator instead of attached directly to a LDP-V laser diode driver.

Print Recommendations

  • HT-PLA, PETG/PCTG, or other mid to high temp resistant plastics are recommended as the unit can get a little hot.

  • Use 3 perimeters for a 0.4 nozzle or 2 for a 0.6 nozzle to ensure sufficient meat on the stand-offs.

  • Infill isn't important, the walls are thin enough that it will be mostly perimeters anyway.\

  • No supports needed

  • The Lid part consists of two bodies which should be imported as a single multi-body object into the slicer.

  • Set the "Inlet" object in the Lid file to be a Modifier.

  • Set the modifier with custom Infill and Perimeter settings:

    • Set Infill to 15% Honeycomb of similar low density 2D pattern of your choice.

    • Zero Top Layers

    • Zero Bottom Layers

    • 1 Perimeter

    • Examples of this for Prusa Slicer and Orca Slicer are included as .3mf files for your convenience.

Assembly and Use

  • Screws down to integrated stand-offs with M3 hardware. Just apply a little pressure and a steel M3 bolt will self-tap nicely into the plastics.

  • There is extra headroom for you to attach a 24V 4010 axial flow fan onto standoffs above the board for cooling which is recommended for high duty cycle operation. I wire the fan directly to the 15V input power for the board so that it always runs when the board is powered.

  • The lid snaps-on the top.
