NOT TEST PRINTED. I have not printed this one yet. It passes my software checks (watertight, one body per file, flat on the bed, fits a 220 x 220 mm bed, no supports, parts fit together) and every picture is a render, not a photo.

Full version (with the MMX probe on its arm, the PHOBOS / MMX 2026 name plate and the probe display stand) on Cults: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/phobos-desk-model-with-mmx-probe

A display model of Phobos, the larger of the two moons of Mars, for your desk or shelf. The shape comes from the Gaskell Phobos Shape Model in the NASA Planetary Data System, scaled to 110 mm long and simplified so it prints cleanly, so Stickney crater and the grooves are the real ones, a little softened.

Phobos comes in two halves that join on a hidden octagon key, which fits one way only, and rests on a square rod in a plain stand with a small embossed roundel. It is a display model with no moving parts.

What you get

  • 5 STL files, each already in its print orientation: plain stand, rod, two Phobos halves and a joining key

  • The build scripts and the check results

What you need

  • About 234 g of filament and around 14 hours of printing (my estimates, not slicer output; your printer may differ by 20% or more)

  • A bed of 220 x 220 mm or larger. The largest part is the stand at 177 x 116 mm.

  • No supports. The halves print cut face down and the rod prints lying flat.

  • A drop of glue for the key and the halves.

If you print one, I'd love to see it. Post a make with a photo, good or bad, and it helps me improve the next version.

Happy to tweak the design on request.
