A basic case/housing for the Elecrow 7" Display-D. It currently fits my needs, but I will add another backside without an attached Raspberry Pi 4. Maybe made modular so you can optionally attach the Pi in a separate Housing to it. A tilted stand will be added soon.
The pins to access the buttons on the display have a small tolerance, but they should sit tight. If needed, use some sandpaper. 🙂
Stuff that you need:
4 x M3 x 30 (35 works aswell)
4 x M3 x 4 x 5 threaded inserts
HDMI cable (30 cm)
USB-A to USB-C cable (30 cm)
Raspberry Pi 4
Power Supply
No specific print settings required. I used PLA (Prusament Galaxy Black) as the Pi 4 doesn't get too hot. You'll need to print the pin 5 times. Use atleast 5-6 walls (sfaes time). Printing of all parts took approx. 4.5 hours on a BL A1.
Assembly:
Screw the Pi 4 to the display with the provided studs
Wire everything up
Clean the display beforehand
Use a soldering iron and carefully melt the threaded inserts in place (use a cutting knife and make sure they are sitting flush without a bulge! This is important!)
Put it in the front bezel (tight fit, correct orientation)
Make sure the circuit board of the display sits flush
Place the 5 pins accordingly
Put the front bezel onto the rear cover (don't push down on table!)
Align carefully, fit 2 screws from below while holding up (yes, it's fiddly)
Don't forget the power cable
Turn around and screw everything tight
Enjoy!
